The Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) has taken action to cancel the registration of certain Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) of disability or social support qualifications, affecting some disability workers across Australia.
ASQA is undertaking an ongoing program of regulatory action involving a number of RTOs following a series of compliance investigations targeting illegal behaviour and non-genuine providers.
The Victorian Disability Worker Commission will continue to make updates to information on its website and via other communication channels, as it becomes available from ASQA to keep the disability community informed.
ASQA has cancelled the registration of the following RTOs:
• Luvium Pty Ltd (trading as Australia Education & Career College 52865)
• Gills College Australia Pty Ltd (trading as Elite College Australia and/or Stirling Business College)
• International Institute of Education and Training Pty Ltd (IIET), (trading as EDU VET 40993)
ASQA has also taken action to cancel qualifications and statements of attainment issued to students of these RTOs. Former students of these RTOs should refer to information from ASQA about the cancellations and what steps to take by visiting asqa.gov.au/information-former-students-cancelled-providers
The Victorian Disability Worker Commission encourages all employers and service providers to take action to ensure safe, quality services for people with disability. If you have staff with qualifications issued by these training providers you may need to take action to maintain compliance. Information is available at dewr.gov.au/asqa-regulatory-action-notices-intent-cancel-qualifications
The Disability Worker Registration Board of Victoria will consider the impact of any cancellation of qualification on registered disability workers. The Board will contact all registered disability workers who have relied on qualifications from these training providers to qualify for disability worker registration.
The Board and Commission regulate disability workers, promoting accountability, safety and quality in the disability workforce. The scheme includes voluntary worker registration, a complaints service for people to raise concerns, and the requirement that all disability workers comply with the Disability Service Safeguards Code of Conduct, including the requirement to provide supports and services in a safe and competent manner, with care and skill.
